17 Things to do with Fresh Cilantro
Cilantro grows easily in a garden or container during the summer months. You’ll want to harvest and use the leaves quickly because they don’t taste as good once the plant begins to flower. Here are a few things to do with fresh cilantro leaves.
- Add it to fresh salsa.
- Use it in fresh guacamole.
- Sprinkle chopped leaves on any Mexican-inspired dish — tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas, nachos, etc.
- Use it in these Tex Mex Fajitas.
- Sprinkle it in chili or taco soup.
- Top loaded baked potatoes with it.
- Add it to salad.
- Make a southwest salad with cilantro, black beans, corn, and crushed tortilla chips.
- Add it to pasta salad.
- Add a few leaves to dips, hummus, or pesto sauce.
- Add it to rice, quinoa, or couscous. Here’s a copycat recipe for Chipotle’s cilantro lime rice.
- Sprinkle it in scrambled eggs or omelettes.
- Add it to a stir fry toward the end of cooking.
- Drop some leaves into a green smoothie.
- Add it to salad dressing.
- Sprinkle it in cole slaw.
- Harvest the seeds, also called coriander. Use them in cooking, or save them to replant again next year.
Don’t forget that any cilantro you aren’t able to use can go in your compost pile to create nutrient-rich organic material for your garden, potted plants, or lawn.
